The Cheese Barge Floating Restaurant

The Cheese Barge: A review

If you’re after a quirky place to eat, then I can highly recommend The Cheese Barge.

Moored up in the Paddington Basin on the Regent’s canal, this is the ultimate cheese feast. My husband received a voucher for his birthday towards a meal here which we were really excited about to visit. We have been to a sister restaurant in Seven Dials market called Pick and Cheese which is just as good but a very different vibe.

The Boat

The barge is tied up just outside Paddington Underground station. This would be a great place to have lunch before walking from Little Venice to Camden. The barge does move on the water ever so slightly but is only noticeable when sitting still. We visited when it was quite windy but barely felt any movement however.
During the winter, you feel very cosy indoors with intimate seating. I would like to return in the summer when they open up the roof terrace on top of the barge.

The Cheese Barge Menu

The menu has a selection of cheeses alongside small plates, toasted sandwiches and a couple of sharing options. Don’t expect a hearty meal, although we had a sharing plate which was enough for a main meal for us both.

When you choose a small plate of cheese, you get unlimited crackers which is great. I wish in hindsight that we had ordered more small plates of cheese rather than our main. We had stewed lamb with extremely cheesy mash potato. It was incredibly tasty but we were at a cheese restaurant and wanted more cheese!

Getting to The Cheese Barge

It is about 25 metres from the Tube exit at Paddington Station so very easy to get to. It is a lovely walk also from Marylebone along the canal basin.
